Last week, myself and Julie went to get kitted out for our London Marathon training. We were advised to go to Run For It in Townhead.
When we got there, we were seen to straight away by the resident podiatrist and sales assistant, who got us to go on the treadmill and, using specific software, was able to assess the way we ran and then issue us with the correct shoes for our feet, gait and running style.
We were then given advice on the types of leggings, shorts, tops and general equipment we would need. Again – spot on advice, all delivered in a very friendly way. Gels were recommended and after a 12.5 mile first post-New Year run, I was really impressed I had the energy to complete the distance with an uphill sprint finish.
The difference I have felt having the correct footwear is amazing. Thanks to Grant Nisbett for his kind donation of buying both Julie and I professional running shoes. Also a massive thank you to Sarah H, who has very kindly put us up in the Grand Park Hotel, Kensington, for the duration of our stay. I am extremely grateful for such generosity. Thank you both very much indeed.
Now that the first week of Marathon training is nearly over, I am excited about the rest. I have some great ideas when I am out pounding the streets and making myself stronger. Also a bit of Davie time is great. I think I may be getting the running bug which is great because hating the thought of 26 odd miles isn’t a good starting point.
