NLP Practitioners Course with the Scottish Centre of NLP…. The class of 2012

Last week my days were spent on a 7 day Neuro Linguistic Programing (NLP) Practitioners course. For those of you unsure what NLP is below is a Wikipedia definition.

Neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) is an approach to communication, personal development, and psychotherapy created in the 1970s. The title refers to a stated connection between the neurological processes (“neuro”), language (“linguistic”), and behavioral patterns that have been learned through experience (“programming”) and can be organized to achieve specific goals in life” – Wikipedia

What an amazing, outstanding, crazy, scary, funny, emotional, happy, thought provoking, new skill learning, world shaking, week of discovery. I had the great pleasure of being in a class of open, friendly honest students all willing to share and help each other throughout the week. Great new friends were made and I personally found my very own English tutor and my first business coaching project. I was also witness to some very special events, awesome breakthroughs and was fortunate enough to dump some of my own stuff along the way.

The Class of 2012

To me NLP  is a pathway to self improvement. No matter what area of your world / life you wish to maximise there is a pattern or technique that will provide those required results. Most people have “STUFF” they would like to improve, get rid off,  or work on and in my own opinion NLP is a great vehicle to enable these outcomes.

Although only the start of this part of my personal development journey, already I feel a shift in my mindset and a greater appreciation of this world around me.

Instantly I have many situations marked out where I know the techniques of NLP will encourage my students to develop and overcome their own demons / problems / challenges / phobias label them what you wish.

My mind has been opened and I feel and think like a different person , a new improved more understanding and tolerant Davie, a Davie who has an exciting new skill set that will enable me to travel further and deeper in my own journey to help and assist as many people as I can with the challenges they bring to me.

“Below is a model of how to break a board of wood into pieces. I can read and fully understand this. I also now know that I am very visual, a huge matcher, extremely towards and ultra reactive. I can listen during conversation and while pacing correctly can pin point language that will allow me to paint a picture while giving me a deeper understanding of each situation. My rapport skills have been improved and the fact that the rules are there are no rules sits perfectly with me.

The delivery from Brian and Steve was first class. They are masters of their trade, with great humour (camp Brian 🙂 and Steve’s awesome jokes 🙂 ) and humility they guided us along the course day after day providing the information they wished us to absorb, witness and practise. I was extremely impressed with the context, delivery, individual assistance given to each course attendee. Humble, happy, friendly, helpful, natural teachers whose love and passion for coaching and NLP is infectious.  We all received our very own NLP handbook as seen in the picture below. A fantastic resource of information for us all to work through.

As I enter my  new world I understand the techniques taught will work well with a bit of practise. You know what they say. Repetition is the mother of skill.

On walking in on day 2. ( they kindly allowed me to start a day late due to GS comp in Wales ) I was very nervous with butterflies in my gut. It has been many years since I was in the classroom environment and back then my concentration skills were far from the greatest.

I am no longer that uninterested student forced to learn. I am a keen and hungry student who is ready to learn, open to be taught and introduced to new subject. I now get totally excited and absorbed in learning. If only my teachers  from school could see me now :-).

I am sad that the week is over as we all made great new friends. For everyone new paths of discovery and development lay before them. Exciting times in front of us all.

Who would have thought that seeking out help after I found myself in a situation where due to the stress of making my dreams come true I was overweight again, in a horrendous eating cycle and crying out for help back at the start of this year.  That by asking Brian to help me understand my own WHY’S I would end up here. 4 months of private NLP coaching from Brian at the start of the year I find myself to be completely controlled around food and make conscious choices when faced with challenge food. This was confirmed every day last week when the hotel we had the course in would provide daily boxes of biscuits and bags of doughnuts. Before this would have been a huge challenge for me, not now as I said to Brian on a break “none of it bothers me they look good, smell great and sound awesome to eat, but I know they don’t do well for me so I’m not going to bother with them”. At last now after a 10 year battle with food greed I have found complete control.

I connect and relate this control directy to the work Brian did with me and all the NLP self help patterns he put me through. Most excitingly I move towards Christmas time, a time of year I used to dread due to the weigth gain from all the party food.

This is no longer the case I am happy, content and in complete control. no more New Year dieting for me I will start 2013 healthy happy and lean. This will be a first time for me.

The week was toatlly amazing. I was told that after this my life would never be the same again and I fully agree. Time now for me to fully digest what I learned and apply this knowledge in real world situations.  DMC NLP is born !!!!!!! Already I look forward to Master Practisioners in May next year.

Thank you to Brian and Steve collectively the Scottish Centre for NLP,
