before personal training
after personal training

I picked DMC Fitness for personal training in February 2014 because I was fed up of being fed up with myself and the realization finally dawned that if I wanted to make changes, it was down to me to take action. I had the added incentive of my daughter’s wedding in July and I wanted to look and feel better about myself.

Luckily, I work only about 100 yards from DMC so had no excuses. Initially, I just wanted to look and feel a bit better but was worried that I had left it too late to have much effect before the wedding – age-wise as well as time scale really as I had turned 50 the year before- but Davie reassured me that it was never too late because after all age is just a number and even small changes could make a big difference to how I felt.

Grant was assigned as my coach for my 10-week block of training. Initially, I was really apprehensive to begin and concerned that I wouldn’t be able to do anything and would be wasting everyone’s time. Grant has been the most inspiring (and patient) trainer, although he doesn’t listen when I ask him “do you know how old these knees are?” He just laughs and I have to get on with the task in hand. He is so full of encouragement and enthusiasm that you can’t fail to make progress.

The whole crew at DMC is so supportive and you never feel you are just a number; every element is tailored to your own level of ability, and every success is celebrated. Grant mixes my training up all the time as my strength is constantly improving and to ensure that I never get bored with the same routines for too long.

I have found I really enjoy the training routines and although the nutrition side of things takes a bit of getting used to, I am regularly told off by Grant for “not eating enough”. I have stuck with it and the results have been nothing short of amazing. I am in the best shape of my life and all my friends and family have been so impressed with the results that I have achieved in what is really quite a short period of time.

I have now committed as a long-term student because although regular exercise and better food choices are now just part of my life, I don’t say I am on a diet; I just choose not to eat certain foods (most of the time). I never want to go back to how I felt and looked before and with Grant always on hand to lend some advice, I know I’ll never look back.
