It’s the middle of July and it seems like the year has been flying in. I’ve just finished self-isolating due to meeting a friend from outside of the gym who caught Covid. Luckily she’s fine and only had mild symptoms. To be safe I went for a Covid test which came back negative. However, I still had to serve 10 days in Covid jail.
I’ve made the best of it. I’ve been keeping on top of my training, did a bit of cooking, read books, listened to music, and lay in the glorious sun that we’ve been enjoying lately.
I’m excited to get my freedom back, all the same.
This week I stumbled across this article in the NY Times in response to the US’ failure over the ‘War on Drugs’. It covers the new drug policy and reform movement called ‘Decriminalise Nature’. In the past two years, they have persuaded half a dozen municipalities to decriminalise many plant medicines like psilocybin, ayahuasca, and more. It’s worth reading if you support a more liberal attitude towards certain types of plant-based drugs / medicines’.
I’ve had a listen to Michael Pollan’s interview on the Joe Rogan Experience. Michael is journalist who went on a journey into psychadelics. His approach is unique because he started as an outsider who’d never taken drugs growing up. To me that makes his story all the more interesting because he didn’t approach psychedelics from a predisposed pro-mindset.
Michael Pollens has a book out called, ‘This is Your Mind on Plants‘. He’s also written about psychedelics in the book ‘How to Change Your Mind – The New Science of Psychedelics‘.
I watched this short documentary on the ‘Night Train’ Sonny Liston.
At the weekend I enjoyed UFC 264. I was gutted to see Connor McGregor lose his fight due to breaking his leg though. I’m sure he’ll be back, and no doubt get his rematch with Dustin Poirier when he’s back to 100%.
My favourite tune this week is Peace by Taylor Swift.
Covid jail gave Julie and me an opportunity to watch some films, so we did the 50 Shades Trilogy. We’ll be converting the home gym to an S&M dungeon next week… Only kidding, ha ha ha!
As usual I’ll wrap up this entry with quotes that I’m pondering during the week.
‘Nature doesn’t hurry, yet everything is accomplished.’Lao Tzu
‘A single seed planted, eventually becomes a garden in time – when things get tough, tend to the garden in your mind.’Jennifer Sodini
Well, that’s another weekly review. I can’t wait to make the most of my release from Covid jail during the next couple of weeks break.
Until then, “Strength for Life”
